Our process incorporates the following steps, which may be modified based on a child’s needs.
Five-Step Family Consultation
1) Initial intake of child information with parents/primary caretakers
2) Review of relevant documents such as school reports or evaluations
3) Evaluative one-on-one session with child
4) Written summary and recommendations
5) Oral report of findings and recommendations
Services to Families
1) Design a plan that best meets the needs of the child and their family.
2) Coach the family through the implementation of the plan.
3) Advise parents to find the appropriate evaluator for a psychoeducational or neuropsychological evaluation.
4) Identify the best outside support services, such as learning specialists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and subject-based tutors.
5) Counsel parents in matching their child’s learning style with the appropriate schools.
6) Provide specific techniques and strategies for working with their children at home to supplement the school experience.
7) Guide parents on how best to communicate with teachers and administration in order to achieve a productive and harmonious relationship with their child’s school.
Services to Schools
1) Consult with schools and their learning departments on how best to create an efficient and effective system that monitors the academic progress of all students. We can also work with specific faculty and learning specialists to help them in the implementation of the academic monitoring program
2) Provide workshops for parents in grades k-3 on what they can do at home to best support their children in reading, writing and math
